The Northeastern Breakfast | Café do Alto

If you are here, enjoying life in Rio, but would love to know the northeastern cuisine, Café do Alto is the place! The restaurant is specialized in the cuisine of the Northeast, moreover, is a restaurant specialized in the Northeastern culture, but situated in Rio de Janeiro.

On weekends they serve a breakfast that brings together the very best and most typical of the northeastern mornings as cheese, corn couscous, tapioca and more. The breakfast is served regularly on weekends and holidays from 9am.

To arrive at the Café: Coming around Leblon, in the Avenida Visconde de Albuquerque, enter the street Timóteo da Costa and catch the street Sambaíba soon at your left. Up the hill and into the second street (street Alberto Rangel) turn left shortly after Igarapava Street, which falls back through Leblon. There is a bus that does that route, it´s number is 503.

CCBB | Impressionism Exhibiton

After attracting 320 thousand visitors in 54 days, in São Paulo, the free exhibition "Impressionism: Paris and modernity" is now at CCBB Rio.  It brings for the first time in the country a selection of 85 masterpieces from the collection of the Musée d'Orsay, in Paris.

The exhibition reflects the history of Western painting in the period that comprises the second half of the 19th century and early 20th  and is divided into six modules -"Paris: the modern city", "The urban life and its authors" and "Paris is a party", "Escape from the City", "Invitation to travel" and "The quiet life", with works by Camille Pissarro, Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Edouard Manet, Gustave Courbet, Carot, Henri Toulosse-Lautrec, Jules Lefebvre, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Vincent Van Gogh, among other masters.

The event has become the preferred attraction of the city. So, if you plan to go, expect to find a queue at the door, and maybe go after for a drink or lunch. Since there is a lot of options around.

For the event were prepared special souvenirs with the theme of the exhibition and that will go on sale to the public there.

Depois de atrair 320 mil visitantes em 54 dias, em São Paulo, a mostra gratuita “Impressionismo: Paris e a modernidade” está em cartaz no CCBB Rio. A mostra traz pela primeira vez ao país uma seleção de 85 obras-primas do acervo do Museu d’Orsay de Paris.

A exposição reflete a história da pintura ocidental no período que compreende a segunda metade do século XIX e início do século XX e é dividida em seis módulos – “Paris: a cidade moderna”, “A Vida Urbana e Seus Autores” e “Paris é uma Festa”, “Fugir da Cidade”, “Convite à Viagem” e “A Vida Silenciosa”, com obras de Camille Pissaro, Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Edouard Manet, Gustave Coubert, Carot, Henri Toulosse-Lautrec, Jules Lefebvre, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Pierre-Auguste Renoir e Vincent Van Gogh, entre outros mestres.

O evento já virou atração preferida da cidade. Então, se programe para encontrar fila na porta, e quem sabe até emendar nos arredores depois para um drink ou almoço. Já que opções não faltam.

Giacometti no MAM

Finalmente chega ao Rio, pela primeira vez uma grande retrospectiva das obras de Giacometti.

Alberto Giacometti — Coleção da Fondation Alberto et Annette Giacometti, Paris chega hoje, no MAM.

A exposição reune mais de 200 obras do artista, realizadas entre os anos 1910 e 1960 e divididas entre esculturas, desenhos, pinturas, gravuras e objetos decorativos, além de fotos e documentos variados, num total de 282 itens.

Passeio perfeito para esses dias de clima frio e cinza no Rio. E pra quem pode se programar pra ir durante a semana, ainda melhor, já que nos finais de semana é capaz que esteja com uma freqüência bem grande.

Even with some delay, we couldn´t forget to talk about the new title that Rio received: Cultural Heritage of Humanity!

TEDx Rio+20

A segunda edição do TEDxRio, será o TEDxRio+20, evento paralelo à Conferência das Nações Unidas sobre o Desenvolvimento Sustentável (Rio+20). Uma das inúmeras atividades a serem realizadas no Forte de Copacabana, nos dias 11 e 12 de junho. O evento reunirá pensamentos de diversas áreas do saber com apresentações rápidas, de no máximo 18 minutos de personalidades como o artista Vik Muniz, a senadora Marina Silva e a jovem que palestrou aos 12 anos na Rio 92, Severn Suzuki. O objetivo é ser uma plataforma de conexão, um movimento de transformação social, entendendo e analisando o poder humano, força com enorme capacidade de destruir, manter e, principalmente, construir um novo planeta e uma nova forma de viver.

E, assim como o TED é uma experiência única, queremos fazer da estadia dos visitantes que vem para o evento também uma experiência especial! Por isso, estamos junto com eles preparando um material especial para os que participarão do TEDx Rio+20.

The second edition of TEDxRio, is TEDxRio +20, paralel event of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio (Rio +20). It will be one of the many activities to be performed at the Copacabana Fort, in 11th and 12^th of June. The event will bring together thoughts from various areas of knowledge with small presentations of no more than 18 minutes from personalities as the artist Vik Muniz, Senator Marina Silva and the young girl who spoke in Rio 92 with 12 years old, Severn Suzuki. Passeio nas Ilhas Cagarras // Cagarras boat tour

Com esse clima e dias lindos que tem feito, um passeio imperdível para se fazer no Rio para quem curte mar, é o passeio de barco para as Cagarras - aquelas ilhas que conseguimos avistar no horizonte das praias do Leblon e Ipanema. Diversas empresas oferecem passeios de lancha e de saveiro, partindo da Marina da Glória, em direção ao arquipélago, habitat natural de aves marinhas como fragatas, atobás e gaivotas. Com sorte, é possível apreciar golfinhos. O tour começa geralmente às 10h. Então, se você não reservou o passeio com antecedência, chegue cedo na Marina da Glória ( no Aterro do Flamengo) para conseguir se encaixar em algum barco. O passeio dura quase 5 horas, geralmente. Pros que enjoam, é bom levar um remedinho para garantir!

Enjoy the weather and gorgeous days that we have for now, going in an unmissable tour in Rio for those who enjoy the sea. It is the boat trip to the  Cagarras Islands -those that we can see on the horizon from the beaches of Leblon and Ipanema. Several companies offer these boat rides and schooner, starting from the Marina da Glória, toward the archipelago, natural habitat for seabirds such as frigates, atobás and seagulls. With luck, you can see also dolphins. The tour usually starts at 10am. So, if you have not booked the ride ahead, arrive early at Marina da Glória (at the Aterro do Flamengo) to get fit in any boat. The ride lasts nearly 5 hours, generally. For those ones that get sea sickness, it's good to bring a medicine for guarantee ( can be Dramin, that you can easily find in the pharmacies).

Essa semana começa mais uma vez o Restaurant Week aqui no Rio ( é a 6 edição do evento).  O evento, que nasceu em Nova York, vai até o dia 03 de junho e traz mais de 50 restaurantes cadastrados. 
Os menus tem preço fixo e vão custar R$31,90 no almoço e R$43,90 no jantar incluindo entrada + prato principal + sobremesa. Bebidas, couvert e serviço não estão inclusos no valor. Cada restaurante vai oferecer duas opções de cada item para que o cliente escolha o de sua preferência. 
Desta vez, as reservas poderão ser feitas online no site do festival, através de uma parceria com a empresa Restorando e é válida apenas para as casas que optarem pelo serviço, para os demais, as reservas podem ser feitas diretamente com os restaurantes.
São 50 restaurantes participantes! Então, aproveite para escolher um que nunca foi e testar, uma ótima oportunidade!

This week begins again the Restaurant Week here in Rio ( it´s the 6 edition of the event). The event, which was born in New York, goes till 3rd of June and brings more than 50 restaurants participating. The menus are fixed price and will cost R$31.90 at lunch and R$43.90 at dinner including entry + main dish + dessert. Drinks, couvert and service are not included in the value. Tutto Fellini at Moreira Salles Institute

Tutto Fellini é uma exposição que está tendo no incrível Instituto Moreira Salles, com cerca de 400 itens reveladores do universo do cineasta italiano Federico Fellini. Fotografias de bastidores, desenhos feitos pelo próprio diretor, revistas de época, cartazes, entrevistas e trechos de filmes compõem a mostra, que exibe muitos documentos inéditos. Paralelamente à exposição, haverá uma mostra de filmes dele. Serão mais de 20 filmes, entre eles seu primeiro longa Mulheres e luzes e também As noites de Cabíria, Os palhaços, A estrada da vida, Julieta dos espíritos, Abismo de um sonho, Ginger e Fred, Oito e meio. Toda sexta-feira, às 14h, a apresentação de um filme comentado e com entrada franca.

Tutto Fellini is the name of an exhibition at Instituto Moreira Salles, with about 400 items revealing the world of Italian film director Federico Fellini. Backstage photos, drawings made by him, magazines, posters, interviews and film clips, and other many unpublished documents. There will be also an exhibition more than 20 films directed by him, including his first feature Luci del varietà and also Le notti di Cabiria, I Clowns, La strada, Giulietta deli spirit, Lo sceicco bianco, Fred and Ginger, 8 1/2. Every Friday, at 2PM, will be a presentation of a movie with discussions about it. Free admission.

Joan Miró in Ipanema

Produzida em 1974, e batizada de “Miró Escultor”, a série de litografias de Joan Miró traz ao Rio de Janeiro uma homenagem do artista espanhol a sete países de idiomas diferentes: Pérsia, Portugal, Itália, Japão, Suécia, Dinamarca e Inglaterra. 
As obras são originais, assinadas na matriz, certificadas e fazem parte do Catálogo Raisonné Miró Lithographs V 1972-1975. E, a boa notícia pros fãs do artista e está querendo investir em arte, é que toda estarão disponíveis para aquisição do público durante e depois da exposição. Porém, a edição total da série é limitada.
A exposição fica em cartaz a partir do dia 28 de março a 15 de abril, no 00 Café Bistrô. Aproveite e fique por lá para um drink ou comes delícias!


Produced in 1974, and named "Miro Sculptor," the series of lithographs by Joan Miro brings to Rio de Janeiro the honor of the Spanish artist to seven countries with different languages​​: Persian, Portugal, Italy, Japan, Sweden, Denmark and England.
The works are original, signed and certified as part of the Catalogue Raisonné 1972-1975 V Miró lithographs. The good news for fans of the artist and those that are willing to invest in art, is that all of them will be available for purchase during and after exposure. However, the total number of this edition is limited.

O Rio é realmente uma cidade mais que cosmopolita, mas a verdade é que ainda tem muito de provinciana também. Só nós, Cariocas mesmo, para conseguir reconhecer isso. Veja pela quantidade de casas de shows importantes que temos...São poucas! Umas abrem outras fecham, e é assim que temos vivido a história da música por aqui.
Agora, para a alegria geral, temos uma nova casa abrindo com uma programação bem frequente e variada. Torçamos para que assim permaneça!
Miranda, nome dado em homenagem a Carmen Miranda, é a nova casa de shows da Zona Sul da cidade. Fica logo ali, em frente a Lagoa, endereço nobre de verdade! Já começa bem.

Rio is more than a cosmopolitan city, but the truth is we still have a lot of provincial way of life as well. Just being Carioca to easily recognize it. Notice it from the amount of important show venues in the city... We have just a few! While some opens others closes, and that is how we have lived the history of music here.

Robert Doisneau no CCJF // Robert Doisneau Expo

Vamos voltar de novo um pouco pro lado cultural da cidade, que hoje mais do que nunca recebe artistas do mundo todo. Vamos lembrar da exposição do Robert Doisneau que acontece agora no Centro Cultural da Justiça Federal - CCJF - no Centro do Rio, em comemoração do seu centenário. São mais de 152 registros - incluindo aí suas fotos mais icónicas - e um documentário, em cartaz desde ontem até 17 de junho.
Fácil de chegar, é um programinha ótimo pra quem passa pelo Centro da cidade á tarde.

Badalação no Jardim Botânico // Whats up around Jardim Botânico - Parte 1

O Jardim Botânico sempre foi um bairro residencial. Tudo bem que encontramos por lá o Parque Lage e o Parque Jardim Botânico que dá nome ao bairro, ambos bastante turísticos, mas o que queremos mostrar é que há segredinhos escondidos que merecem ser descobertos!

O Jardim Botânico has always been a residential neighborhood. Okay, we know that there we can find the Parque Lage Park and Botanical Garden Park which gives its name to the neighborhood, both quite tourist, but what we want to show is that there are hidden secrets that deserve to be discovered!

Today, Rua Lopes Quintas and its surroundings cluster the majority of those good surprises. To help visitation, we have created a little map in GoogleMaps and set up this cool places.

Mamma Jamma: A friendly and delicious Pizzeria. The pizza with the name of the place is wonderful. For dessert, try the sweet flavored pizzas! It´s mouth watering just thinking at it! Price is fair.

Lorenzo Bistro: A bistro worthy of Paris, but with the Rio way of life. The menu has the taste of France, going till Steak tartar and Canard comfit. Try also the wine list, that is nice too!
 
Atelier Clementina: The workshop, as the name implies, is a place for products made with great dedication. A place for girls with beautiful and cute things: fashion and decor is the theme.

Dona Coisa: A store that combines conceptual and sophisticated fashion stylists and artists from all over Brazil. Worth checking out!

Casa Carandaí: Recently opened, the deli promises. With imported products, also seeks to invest heavily in the specialties of Brazil.

Gibeer: A bar tidier than a pub. With the wide variety of domestic and international beers - more than 40 labels – is crowded of lovers of the drink.

La Bicyclette: To eat a delicious breakfast, or buy some bread, or just have a coffee. It's full on the weekends in the morning. If you can, choose a weekday to sit there and have a full breakfast calmly. Prefer a cooler day, since most of the tables are outdoors.
